National Gallery of Denmark, Denmark

The Danish national gallery, the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst, or "SMK" for short, literally State Museum for Art), is situated in the heart of Copenhagen.
From the 14th century to the present, the museum manages, preserves, records, and conducts research on Danish and international art.Nearly 9,000 paintings and sculptures, some 240,000 pieces of art on paper, and more than 2,600 plaster casts of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance individuals make up the museum's holdings. The Danish royal collection is the source of the majority of the older items. By 2020, it is anticipated that some 40,000 items from the collections would be accessible online.Vilhelm Dahlerup and G. E. W. Møller designed the first museum building, which was constructed in the Historicist Italian Renaissance revival style between 1889 and 1896.

The architects Mads Møller and Anna Maria Indrio of Arkitektfirmaet C. F. Møller created a sizable contemporary addition to the museum's rear. The vast collection of modern art was housed in the expansion, which was built in 1998. A glass-panelled 'Street of Sculptures' promenade and theatre, which runs the length of the museum and overlooks the Østre Anlaeg park, connects the two buildings. This space is used for talks, concerts, and installations.
