In 2020, Giethoorn, a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel, had 2,795 residents. It is situated approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) southwest of Steenwijk in the municipality of Steenwijkerland. Giethoorn, sometimes known as the "Venice of the Netherlands" or "Dutch Venice" (Dutch: Hollands Venetië), is a well-liked Dutch tourist destination both domestically and internationally.Previously a pedestrian precinct, Giethoorn is now an exception. It gained notoriety locally, particularly after the Dutch director Bert Haanstra shot his well-known comedy Fanfare there in 1958. He served as the leader of the Eighty Years' War, a developing national Dutch resistance movement against Spanish domination. At that time, Delft was one of Holland's most important cities and had the city walls needed for a headquarters. In the Battle of Delft in October 1573, Spanish soldiers launched an attack that was repulsed.

De Haar Castle's interior is every bit as magnificent as its exterior! You can take your time exploring the interior if you purchase a combo ticket. With opulent bedrooms, sculptures and carvings, paintings, ornate furniture, stained glass windows, There are 200 rooms in the castle! The interior tour was quite informative and worth it, even though they only allowed you walk through a few of these. The entire village of Haarzuilens had to move to make room for this magnificent castle, which was constructed by renowned Dutch architect PJH Cuypers. It is situated on a breathtaking 250-acre park. It's like taking a tour of an art museum.The castle has gone by numerous titles over the years. The castle was originally built by an aristocratic family known as the Van Zuylen family. You get Haarzuilens, Haarzuilen, or Haarzuylens when you combine that with the family name De Haar. Today, Haarzuilens is the name of the town where the castle is situated. However, the history books also mention Ter Haar, De Haer, and Huis De Haar.
