Christiansborg Palace, Denmark

Christiansborg Palace is a government and palace complex located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, on the islet of Slotsholmen. The Danish Supreme Court, the Danish Prime Minister's Office, and the Danish Parliament are all housed there. The Danish monarch also uses the Palace Chapel, the Royal Reception Rooms, and the Royal Stables, among other areas of the palace. Therefore, the three highest powers—executive, legislative, and judicial—are housed in the palace. All three branches of a nation's government are housed in one building, which is unique in the world. As a result, Christiansborg is also commonly used as a metonym for the Danish political system, and it is commonly referred to informally as Borgen ('the castle') or Rigsborgen ('the castle of the realm').

The current structure, the third of its kind, is the final in a line of castles and palaces built on the same location since the first one was built in 1167. The numerous structures have been the foundation of the central government since the early fifteenth century. They were the major palace of the Danish kings until 1794, and then the seat of parliament after 1849.
