Located in Westminster, Greater London, Hyde Park is a 350-acre (140-hectare) historic urban park that is Grade I listed. The largest of the parks and green areas that make up the chain from Kensington Palace to Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, Buckingham Palace, and St. James's Park, it is a Royal Park. The Serpentine and Long Water lakes separate Hyde Park.Henry VIII created the park in 1536 when he appropriated the property from Westminster Abbey and turned it into a hunting area. Since its public opening in 1637, it has gained popularity, especially for May Day parades. Queen Caroline oversaw significant advancements in the early 18th century. During this time, the park also developed into a venue for duels, frequently involving nobles. The Crystal Palace, created by Joseph Paxton, was built for the Great Exhibition of 1851, which took place in the park during the 19th century.
