While some of the columns have four, five, seven, or eight sides, the majority are hexagonal. The highest are about 12 meters (39 feet) high, and in some spots, the cliffs' solidified lava is 28 meters (92 feet) thick. The National Trust owns and operates a large portion of the Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site. With over 998,000 visits in 2019, it is among the most visited tourist destinations in Northern Ireland .

The first Selfridges store outside of London is located in the Dome. The 20-screen Odeon Cinema and other leisure amenities are also situated in the Dome section on the second floor accessed by The Orient.The Orient is a two-story dining and entertainment complex with the biggest food court in Europe as well as other eateries, cafes, and recreational spaces. The Great Hall was added in 2007 to expand this space.Festival Village, a market-style hall at the end of Peel Avenue, was once part of the center. Around 50 smaller boutiques catering to more specialized retailers occupied this 35,000 square foot facility, which also included food, childcare, and kid-friendly entertainment options.In order to make way for the John Lewis department store, which opened in May 2005, this area was shuttered in late 2003.

The park gained notoriety in the late 20th century for hosting massive free rock concerts with acts like Queen, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones. Major park events have persisted into the twenty-first century, including the yearly Hyde Park Winter Wonderland since 2007 and Live 8 in 2005.

According to a 2011 list of alternate tourist destinations by National Geographic magazine, it came in sixth place worldwide.With 21.3 million visitors in 2017, it is Wales' most visited location.Cardiff is home to Wales' major national broadcasters and is a key hub for television and film production (including the 2005 relaunch of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sherlock) Cardiff Bay is home to the Wales Millennium Centre arts complex and the Senedd building. Cardiff Bay and the center are still working on initiatives like the BBC Drama Village, Cardiff International Sports Village, and a new business zone.
