St. Vitus Cathedral, Czech Republic

"The most well-known features of St. Vitus Cathedral are the Bohemian Coronation Jewels and the tomb of St. Wenceslas, the most venerated saint in Czech culture. The history of the cathedral is extensive. The structure dates back to 925, when Prince Wenceslas constructed a chapel on the location. As Prague gained prominence, the edifice expanded, and after the Prague bishopric was created, it quickly became a basilica. Between 1344 to 1419, it underwent another phase of growth during which the St. Wenceslas Chapel was constructed and it started to change into a Gothic cathedral. Neo-Gothic elements were added when construction and repairs started in the late 18th century.

The Royal Mausoleum, the magnificent stained glass windows in the chapels, and the bronze doors with reliefs depicting the history of the cathedral are the highlights of a visit. Visitors should make time to see the murals in St. Wenceslas Chapel, which are authentic representations of the stations of the cross and scenes from St. Wenceslas' life from the 14th century."
