The Czech Republic is home to Karlštejn Castle (Czech: hrad Karlštejn; German: Burg Karlstein). King Charles IV built this massive Gothic castle in 1348. In addition to the Bohemian Crown Jewels, religious relics, and other royal valuables, the castle housed the Imperial Regalia. One of the most well-known and often visited castles in the nation is Karlštejn.
The Central Bohemian Region's Karlštejn market town is home to Karlštejn Castle. It is located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southwest of Prague, the country's capital, on a hill with a view of the Berounka river and the actual market town.
One of the most well-known and often visited castles in the Czech Republic is Karlštejn. With almost 200,000 tourists annually as of 2019, it was the fifth most visited castle. The castle was built upon a peninsula from the south side of Kněží Hora hill, divided from it by a short sag. At the western slope of the promontory, above a moat, was the first gate, a square, two-story tower with a lofty hip roof. There was a small doorway connecting it to the rampart traverse. A covered bastion in the center separated the traverse, which was defended by battlement. The courtyard of Burgrave House was accessible through the second gate. Both entrances were closed by drawbridges. The Well Tower was a little lower than the Burgrave House, which made up the Karlštejn hamlet. It was defended by a rampart that was two meters broad. The major entrance to the inner castle, the third gate, was stalled in the burgraviate's rampart.
