Eiffel Tower, France

Located on Paris, France's Champ de Mars, the Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice structure. It bears the name of Gustave Eiffel, an engineer whose firm created and constructed the tower between 1887 and 1889.Known locally as "La dame de fer" (French for "Iron Lady"), it was built to crown the centenary anniversary of the French Revolution and serve as the focal point of the 1889 World's Fair. Despite being criticized for its design at first by some of France's most prominent artists and thinkers, it has now grown to become a worldwide cultural symbol of France and one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.5,889,000 people visited the skyscraper in 2022.With 6.91 million climbers in 2015, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited landmark in the world that charges admission. It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site ("Paris, Banks of the Seine") in 1991 after being classified a monument historique in 1964.The tower is the tallest building in Paris, standing at 330 meters (1,083 feet) , roughly the same height as an 81-story building. Its foundation is square and 125 meters (410 feet) across. When it was being built, the Eiffel Tower overtook the Washington Monument as the world's highest man-made structure. It remained that way for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was completed in 1930.It was the first building in the world to reach the heights of 200 and 300 meters. In 1957, a broadcasting aerial was added to the top of the tower, making it 5.2 meters (17 feet) taller than the Chrysler Building. The Eiffel Tower, excluding transmitters, is France's second-tallest free-standing building, after the Millau Viaduct.
