Chamonix, France

Strasbourg is tucked away along the banks of the Rhine River, where France and Germany converge, marking the intersection of Western Europe. Due to its advantageous location, the capital of the ancient Alsace region has long been a hub for trade and cross-cultural interaction. The Ill River created a number of islands on which the city is spread out, the most well-known of which is Grande Île, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A picture-perfect scene reflecting centuries of Germanic and French influence can be found here, where pastel-colored half-timbered buildings, vibrant cafés, and artisan stores are interspersed with small cobbled alleys.

The Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, a towering Gothic masterpiece finished in 1439, is the city's architectural crown jewel. It was the highest structure in the world for years, and tourists from all over the world are still drawn to it by its elaborate astronomical clock, rose windows, and elaborate façade. But beyond the cathedral, Strasbourg's skyline is a patchwork of architectural styles: baroque churches, Renaissance mansions, medieval fortifications, and relics of German imperial architecture from the 19th century are all within walking distance of one another and bear witness to the city's rich but turbulent past.
