Established in 1967, the Hungarian Open-air Museum is home to the largest outdoor ethnographic collection in Hungary. The outdoor museum displays living in different parts of Hungary as well as Carpathian folk architecture. Its collection includes both accurate models of folk architecture and real buildings that have been moved to the 63-hectare museum site. Exhibits from the mid-18th century to the mid-20th century are included in the permanent collection.
The museum works to make Hungarian culture more widely known both domestically and abroad.
The museum is divided into eight sections:
Bakony, Balaton Uplands, Upper-Tisza, Great Plains, North Hungarian Village, Upland Market Town, Southern Transdanubia, and Western Transdanubia Kisalföld
