Backpacking in Đerdap, Serbia, is most enjoyable in the spring and fall, from April to June and September to October. From the Golubac Fortress to the dam close to Novi Sip, Serbia, Đerdap National Park runs along the Danube River's right bank. It covers 63,786.5 ha (157,620 acres) and was founded in 1974.The Danube town of Donji Milanovac is home to the park administration office. The larger portion of the national park was named the UNESCO Global Geopark in July 2020, making it the first protected area in Serbia to get such designation. With a total size of 1,330 km2 (510 sq mi), the geopark comprises portions of the Miroč and Kučaj mountain massifs in addition to the Iron Gates Gorge.There are about 1,100 plant species in the park. Pančić's maple and some species of meadow fescue, wild thyme, and heartsease are among the 15 species that are unique to the Balkans.There are 57 forest communities found in the park, of which 40 are relict. Relict species include Turkish hazel, Balkan beech, Oriental beech, European bladdernut, Balkan maple and common walnut, which can be traced in the area from the Tertiary. The EuroVelo 6 bicycle route, also called the Danube bicycle Route, passes through the Djerdap Gorge. It traces the path of this massive European river from Tuttlingen, Germany, to its confluence, connecting the Atlantic coast with the Black Sea.
