Rhodes, Greece

Rhodes is the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, nestled in the southeastern Aegean Sea just off the coast of Turkey. Boasting over 300 days of sunshine each year, its diverse landscape ranges from the rugged peaks of Mount Attavyros to mile-long sandy beaches lapped by clear turquoise waters. The island’s capital, also called Rhodes, spreads around a natural harbor and has been a key Mediterranean crossroads since antiquity.

Stepping into the Old Town of Rhodes is like wandering through a living medieval fortress: winding cobblestone lanes, soaring Gothic arches, and stone ramparts built by the Knights of St. John in the 14th century. Major highlights include the Palace of the Grand Master, the Street of the Knights, and the Archaeological Museum housed in the former Hospital of the Knights. Beyond the walls, the ancient acropolis of Lindos perches dramatically above a horseshoe-shaped bay, its whitewashed houses cascading down the hillside to a golden beach below.

Outside its storied towns, Rhodes offers endless opportunities for seaside relaxation and outdoor adventure. From the family-friendly sands of Faliraki and Tsambika to hidden coves like Anthony Quinn Bay, you’ll find swimming, snorkeling, and water sports aplenty. Inland, pine-covered valleys such as the Valley of the Butterflies provide shaded hiking trails and seasonal natural spectacles. With charming villages dotted across its hills and a vibrant food scene—featuring fresh seafood, local wines, and traditional mezes—Rhodes strikes a perfect balance of history, nature, and modern Greek hospitality.
